 Movie2snd 1.1.1 - Movie2Snd is a very simple application which extracts
soundtracks from QuickTime movies. Drop-launch a movie onto the application
(or choose a movie from the open dialog). You will be prompted for a
location for the resulting sound file. That sound file is a plain ol'
System 7 sound file that can be played by opening (double clicking). You
can also extract sound from music CD's. Movie2Snd does all of its work in
memory, so you'll need to set the application memory size large enough to
accommodate the sound. 1/2 of the target movie's file size is a good rule
of thumb (use VM for large movies).

 PK Music Gloss 1.0 - This stack is more or less a text-only pocket music
dictionary in machine readable and usable form. The word lists were
compiled from a combination of the Harvard Dictionary of music, and the
Clark pocket music dictionary. This glossary does not have detailed
articles like the Harvard, but it gives you enough of a clue as to the
meaning of a word to be able to fake most music exams. There is one heck of
a lot of information here. The stack is not flashy like some other stacks I
have put here. If you are a student of music, it's probably worth your

impression from the screen. This small application enables you to use your
Macintosh as an oscilloscope. Although this application cannot be compared

edit by cutting and pasting, dub and mix sounds sampled at 8 bit and 22Khz.
Up to 8 "Tracks" can be opened at the same time. Up to 4 "Tracks" can be
played together. No length limit for Tracks. "Tapes" are files that can
group up to 4 Tracks, in a particular AIFF format. Moreover, there is a
Fourier Power Spectrum, some digital filters, and ability to convert some
sound resources. To run this program you will need a Mac with System 7, a
fast clock and at least 68020 + arithmetic coprocessor 68881 and 6Mb of
RAM.

 Startup Player 1.01 - Startup Player is a definitely cool extension that
will play a sound over and over until all other extensions have loaded and
the Finder comes out. The sound must be in a Finder sound file called
"Startup Loop" inside the Extensions folder (or in the System folder if
you’re running System 6). Since you’ll want Startup Player to start playing
early in the startup process, you may add a space before the extension
name. If you’re using some kind of startup manager, make Startup Player
load early.

 Metronome1.0 - Metronome is a simulation of a mechanical metronome, used
primarily for setting the tempo when playing music. When the program is
started, the wand of the metronome begins to swing back and forth, making a
"tick" sound at the end of each swing. The sound can be turned on or off
using the "Options" menu, and the frequency can be set to any number of
beats per minute between 1 and 160. Metronome is designed to be run on a
color monitor with 8-bit color, but will also work with other color
settings or with gray scale monitors. Although it will run on a black and
white monitor, some of the graphics won't show up.

(or greater) and a Macintosh with microphone-input. Supports the Built-in
Mic, MacRecorder, VoiceLink, any device that follows Mac protocol. Easy to
use, try singing into the microphone. After you get the basic idea,
experiment with 'Preferences'. There are several different synchronization
and display modes. Try the 'Lissajous Figures' in 'Async' mode and play an
'F' on your favorite instrument. Wow!

sampled sounds are supported. The new version of this sound editor includes
improved interface and support for stereo sounds. Reads and writes SND,
AIFF, WAV, and VOC sound formats. Will also attempt to read unknown format
files. Has complete editing functionality and supports 3 to 1 and 6 to 1
compression for Mac formats, has asynchronous recording of sound. Many,
many other features. A bug was fixed which caused incorrect sample rates
for WAV files saved on a Mac which did not have a sound input device.

positions in the stereo triangle. Or at the “surround” position, in which
the sound will appear to come from everywhere around you, especially, if
your HiFi set contains one of the famous surround processors (due to the
surround capabilities, someone called the Sound-Trecker
“Surround-Trecker”).

 Fret Navigator 1.2 - FretNavigator can find chords, scales, intervals, and
chordal progressions on any stringed instrument. You can also all to the
repository of chords, scales, tunings and instruments it knows about. You
can also play what you see through the speaker or through MIDI. The program
took about a year to write, it is written in C+- using the TCL and Think C
5.0.  At the moment I have no plans to put any time into it, it does what
it says it does, and I don't know of any bugs at the moment. Fret Navigator
is incompatible with version 3.0 of the sound manager. FIX - Don't play
sounds through the speaker, use MIDI. Fret Navigator is incompatible with
16 bit color mode. FIX - Set Monitors to 256 colors before you run it.

 DataSnd 0.8 - Basically, this is a program that will read in a file and
extract all data from the data fork and attempt to convert it to a sound.
If you decide it will be cute to open a 2 meg non sound file then you may
have fun listening to the  horrible noise. (It will be painful, and you
can't abort it unless you have the ASC (Apple Sound Chip.). This program
runs on machines without the ASC. (Machines like the SE and Plus.) System 7
is required, however. I don't think the stereo function works, so if I ever
find a stereo VOC / WAV file then I will test it out. Please let me know if
it works or not. To use DataSnd, just open a file. When you get a box
asking for a sampling rate, just try them all until one works.

 CD+G Player1.01 - CD+G Player is a program which can play and display the
graphics for discs in the CD+G (Compact Disc + Graphics) format. Hardware
Requirements - A CD+G compatible CD-ROM drive, such as the Apple CD300 or
Sony CDU-561. A Color Macintosh. A monitor with a resolution of at least
640 x 480 pixels (optional - This is only needed to display the graphics in
2:1 mode). Software Requirements - System 7 or 32-bit QuickDraw, Apple
CD-ROM Software version 4.0.2 or later. Insert a CD+G disc in the drive.
The CD+G Player works with Audio CDs too, but isn't nearly as fun. If the
software is installed correctly, an "Audio CD" icon should appear on the
desktop after a few seconds. A list of CD's to try is included.

 Welcome!v1.3.2 - Welcome! is a fond re-creation of the Welcome2 program
that used MacInTalk. It requires Apple’s Speech Manager, and fails
gracefully if it is not present. It lists all installed voices in the
"Voices" menu. You can choose which voice you want Welcome! to use in the
future by selecting one. If you don't select any, it defaults to either
"Female Voice", if available, or the last voice installed, if not. Version
1.3.2 is a bug-fix, which fixes the darn bug that made it Thanksgiving all
week (this one manifested at a job interview) and adds Halloween (no, I
don't know how I missed it the first time. Try it.

 TTD 2.0 Demo - Touch Tone Decoder allows you to analyze a sound to
determine whether touch tones are present, and if so, which ones. It also
recognizes rings, busy signals, and the dial tone. Tones may be analyzed in
real time, or recorded and then decoded. You can toggle the recognition of
certain classes of tones by checking/unchecking the appropriate boxes to
the right of the transform button. Touch Tone Decoder features a graph of
the current recording's average amplitude versus time in the small
rectangle immediately below the buttons.This copy is partially disabled -
it will not acknowledge 3 of the 16 touch tones. To obtain a full-featured
copy, please register by sending $25 to the author.

yuk. UlawPlay uses a double buffering technique to read in chunks of data
from the input file, apply the inverse mu-law characteristic and play it
all in real time. In this way the application doesn't need much memory and
can play very large sound files (no upper limit in principle). You may hear
a very small amount of noise between chunks but it is not too bad; all this
probably depends on the processor speed used and the disk access time.

.WAV file. The output options are fairly limited. For input however, a

user's tap input. Unlike other tap algorithms such as those in drum
machines and most sequencers, Tap displays a running average tempo starting

taps. Other algorithms only take into account the last 4 or 8 taps and
because the human finger is not that precise, nor will be the tempo. Future
versions of Tap will hopefully use Midi and Audio as other sources of

Enter, Esc or Backspace will leave it where it is. If the Caps Lock key is
down, the dialog doesn't pop up and the sound volume is directly set to 0.
After the sound volume has been changed, the standard beep will be played

 SoundExtractor 1.31 - Do you remember those sound suitcases created with
utilities like SoundMover or SoundEdit? Each of them contained one or more
sound resources. They were (and still are) a very popular way of storing
sounds. When System 7.0 was released, we saw that one of the new Finder’s
features was to play a sound by clicking on its icon. The problem is that
this can’t be done with sound suitcases. Here is where SoundExtractor comes
in. Just drag a suitcase on top of SoundExtractor’s, and a new folder will
be created. This folder will have a custom icon of a folder with a little
speaker on it, and it will contain all the sounds that were in the sound
suitcase. But now, double-clicking on the sounds will play them!

sounds off the System file under System 7.1. It works pretty much like the
old Font/DA Mover but it moves sound resources intead of fonts. In fact,
creating a new sound file will create a font suitcase with a custom icon
that makes it look like a sound suitcase; moving this suitcase inside
System 7.1's Font folder (inside the System folder) will make the Mac
believe it's a font suitcase, so it will be opened and all its sounds will
be available in the Sound control panel right away. All this could be done
manually with ResEdit, but it's a lot easier to do it with SoundCaser.

in the "confusion" room. A microphone picked up sounds that guests made,
and at random intervals, they heard their own voices played at other parts
of the room. The hack listens to the sound input device and remembers
everything it hears (that is loud enough) and then plays those things back
in a random order. If your Mac has stereo capability, then it also randomly
chooses a speaker to play each sound. The more memory the program has
allocated, the more sounds it remembers. Source code is included. Requires
a Mac with a microphone, and System 7.

sounds and merges them into one stereo sound. Just open the left and right
sounds with the "Open..." command in the File menu, then choose "Save
As...". If you’ve got a stereo-capable Mac, which either mixes the left and
right channels into one mono channel (Mac LC) or outputs true stereo from
the speaker port (Mac IIs and Quadras), you’ll be able to play the sound
just by double-clicking the sound file in the Finder. Mono2Finder requires
System 7.0 or later, and stereo sounds will be succesfully created on any
Mac, but they won’t play on the following Macintoshes - Mac Plus, SE,

 LoopSound 1.0 - WHY LOOP? I like to record sounds that can be looped; that
is, they can be played over and over without any noticeable click at the
end of each playback. SoundEdit lets you do that easily (you can play a
loop by holding down the shift key when clicking on the "play" icon), but
once you've saved the sound there's no way to loop it from the Finder. Many

little application to play my loops. Just drop a System 7 sound file on
LoopSound's icon and it will be played forever (until you quit LoopSound or
drop another sound on it). System 7 is required.
